Sicilian digital waves disturb local transmissions

The Malta Communications Authority (MCA) said on Wednesday that it notes that following the switch-over of TV transmissions to digital in Sicily, high levels of interference are being experienced on a number of frequency channels in use in Malta, leading to a serious degradation in transmissions of local service providers.

MCA is in constant liaison with the Italian Authorities, both the responsible Ministry – the Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico and the National Regulatory Authority – the Autorità per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni (AGCOM) with a view to the earliest cessation of this interference.

The Italian Authorities are attributing these issues to initial teething technical problems related to the switchover, which were also experienced with other neighbouring countries.

I sincerely hope that the Italians will disregard what the other counties say, as they did in the past, so that we can enjoy tens of good quality stations for free!

Beleave me it is because know channels that we paid for in the past are free to air and they have always been this way in Sicaly !!!! instead of trying to destroy monopoly and stealing from customers the maltese authorities are helping companies like GO to steal from us more money. How sad !!!

The BBC local reception was being off air for one minute 10 seconds for quite some time. About time that MCA did feel to speak and inform the public earler
