Old Motors Club Malta teamed up with some sponsors to celebrate the golden anniversary of the MGB with an event that was undoubtedly the highlight of the motoring events for the month of April, some 90 vehicles, about 63 MGs and 27 classic cars got together on the day.
MG cars started arriving at the Gasan Mamo car park in Gzira quite early in the morning and were parked in an orderly manner as per model type and year of manufacture. About an hour later the cars started leaving the parking area in groups of 10, with the MGBs leading the way. At the end of the Run all the cars returned to the car park and were left on show till early afternoon. In the meantime all participants went across the road to the local importers of MG cars, Muscats Motors, who offered the use of their showroom to OMC to exhibit six rather special OMC MG models. While at the showroom participants got a commemorative participating certificate, finger food and drinks. At the same time thanks to Melita plc OMC manage to create a link with an event that was happening in the UK. Melita plc also sponsored the printing of the commemorative stickers, entry forms and attendance certificates.
The idea of the event was brought forward to OMC In January by Charles Sammut, OMC committee member, owner of 3 MGs, vivid enthusiast for British Marques, and a member of the UK MG Owners Club. The idea was of having this event on the 15th of April being the same day that commemorative MGs runs were planned in England. The cherry on the cake for Charles was the permission granted by the MG Owners Club UK to use their 50th Anniversary Logo.
