The Euro Media Forum is organising The X-Files  night, taking place on Monday 26th March at 7p.m at the Italian Cultural Institute, St. George’s Square , Valletta opposite The Palace ( Malta ’s Parliament house) and next door to the Attorney General’s Office.

From its TV debut in 1993, one film in 1998 to the series finale in 2002 and a return to the big screen in 2008, the weekly sci-fi drama The X-Files was undoubtedly the must see Television event of the 1990’s, setting the blue print for everything that came after, particularly Lost and now Fringe.

The series' title referred to those unsolved FBI files which dealt with the paranormal and unexplained, the cases were investigated by maverick FBI Special Agent Fox ‘Spooky’ Mulder (David Duchovny) and his colleague the medical sceptic Dana Scully (Gillian Andersen) who endeavoured to prove that ‘the truth is out there’ but is there really any truth out there? Are there any science facts behind the X-Files or is it merely science fiction?

X-Files believer Justin Camilleri and X-Files sceptic David Pace together with Moderator Alexis Callus will be exploring the successful phenomenon and the various themes of the X-files series, its enduring popularity, influence, legacy, the real science behind the  files and their relevance to society and how FBI agents Mulder and Scully strived persistently to find the truth behind government conspiracies, UFO sightings, alien abductions, genetic experimentation, possessions, telekinesis, mysterious cults that harbour dark secrets, Area 51, legends of the likes of werewolves, vampires, Big Foot, Atlantis and The Loch Ness Monster.
Will the sceptics be proven wrong and the believers victorious. Is there more than meets the eye? The public is invited to come along and find out the truth.

During the discussion reference will be made to specific scenes of the X-Files series which will be followed by a short quiz where participants will win prizes. The discussion will be held at the Italian Cultural Institute, St George’s Square , Valletta opposite The Palace ( Malta ’s Parliament house) and next door to the Attorney General’s Office. Entrance is free. The event is being organised in collaboration between Malta Film Commission, Science is Culture, Valletta Living History and the Italian Cultural Institute.
