
On Sunday evening the Peugeot 508 won first prize in the "Car of the year 2012" in Algeria, an award made by the by the Algerian motoring journalists association (Club des journalistes Algériens de l’Automobile - CJAA), at a ceremony held in one of the big hotels in Algiers.
The jury, composed of 19 professional journalists, has to judge the new models offered for sale on the Algerian market in 2011, assessing them on several criteria (style, quality, price, fuel consumption, dynamic performance, comfort, safety).
The 508 carried it off ahead of the Ford Focus, the Citroën C4, the KIA Sportage and the Nissan Micra.
Launched in Algeria in May 2011, the 508 has very quickly appealed to Algerian customers, and in only a few months has climbed to 2 nd place in the M2 segment.
After winning "Car of the year 2012" in Spain and Portugal, this new award confirms the recognised qualities of Peugeot’s executive car.
As a reminder, the Algerian vehicle market has been growing strongly since last year (301,400 vehicles in 2011, which was 32% up on 2010).
Peugeot ended 2011 in 3rd place, with 11.1% market share and the best ever sales: 33,336 vehicles (46% up on 2010).
