On Sunday evening the Peugeot 508 won first prize in the "Car of the year 2012" in Algeria, an award made by the by the Algerian motoring journalists association (Club des journalistes Algériens de l’Automobile - CJAA), at a ceremony held in one of the big hotels in Algiers.

The jury, composed of 19 professional journalists, has to judge the new models offered for sale on the Algerian market in  2011,  assessing  them  on  several  criteria  (style,  quality,  price,  fuel  consumption,  dynamic  performance,  comfort, safety).

The 508 carried it off ahead of the Ford Focus, the Citroën C4, the KIA Sportage and the Nissan Micra.

Launched in Algeria in May 2011, the 508 has very quickly appealed to Algerian customers, and in only a few months has climbed to 2 nd place in the M2 segment.

After  winning  "Car  of  the  year  2012"  in  Spain  and  Portugal,  this  new  award  confirms  the  recognised  qualities  of Peugeot’s executive car.

As a reminder, the Algerian vehicle market has been growing strongly since last year (301,400 vehicles in 2011, which was 32% up on 2010).

Peugeot ended 2011 in 3rd place, with 11.1% market share and the best ever sales: 33,336 vehicles (46% up on 2010).
