PL: Gonzi PN to take €500 increase after the election

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said in parliament  on Monday evening, that if GonziPN will be re-elected, the  €500 a week increase will resume if the country's situation deems it justified.

Speaking this morning in Senglea, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said the Prime Minister has now changed his version as until now he said that the honoraria increase was suspended until the end of the legislation.

"In fact GonziPN did not remove the increase but just froze it, and if re-elected, he will sustain that the economy is doing well, to justify it," Muscat exclaimed.

Muscat said that the Labour Party's position is completely different and will keep the remuneration as it was in 2008.

"We believe that a commission made up of the Ombudsman, the General Auditor and the Electoral Commissioner should establish the remuneration amount and not the politicians themselves who decide how much they are paid. I am against such a decision of a  €500 a week increase", Joseph Muscat said.

What would joseph Muscat do if the team he selected decides that compensation is due? Is he going to promise the electorate that he could not increase the Mps and ministers wages for 5 years

This is so cynical. The PM treats the electorate with contempt and insult to its intelligence. The removal of the increase was a factor of the impending election; its reinstatement the passage of same. He states that the country is so well positioned fiscally and economically and yet blames it on same as the reason the €500 was removed.
