In January the Health Inspectorate took steps against a butcher for exposing food to risk of contamination and selling foodstuffs without proper labelling; a confectionery for selling foodstuffs which contained foreign objects; and a catering establishment for failing to deliver what it promised. Another contravention was against a resident who did not remove stoppage in drains.

During January a store was ordered to improve hygiene and organization. A self service was ordered to stop from processing, manufacturing and packing of meat and poultry products without the necessary licence that is issued from the Health Authority.

In January, 338 complaints were lodged with the Directorate. 48 complaints were related to food.  Eight food complaints concerned improper labeling. There were five complaints each about unfit food, unhygienic premise, premises not operating in accordance with licence conditions and risk of contamination.

Another 306 complaints were environmental health related. 83 concerned presence of pests, 61 infiltrations and 25 accumulations of refuse.
