A row between a passenger and an Arriva bus driver who at that time was off-duty and was a passenger on the bus, got out of hand on Friday.
Some of the passengers and the bus driver tried to calm down the situation, as the mobile footage reveals (obscene language is used).
In the meantime, Arriva in an official statement to One News said that any action taken by this driver was taken on his own initiative. This driver is no longer employed with Arriva.
"Arriva has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to violence of any sort and would like to make it very clear that it condemns categorically and without reserve not only this incident but indeed any bullish, violent and other such reproachable and anti-social behaviour," a spokesperson of the company said.
Moreover, the Bus Operator wants to make it absolutely clear that it has a very clear and open diversity policy which all employees are bound to respect.

- Mon 06-Feb-2012, 20:15At this stage i would not like to comment on the incident per se since I was not present personally. However I condemn any type of violence and foul language (which unfortunately is commonplace).
On what grounds was the driver fired? Were the young ladies making a spectacle of themselves to the detriment of the public?

- Mon 06-Feb-2012, 18:12Evidently, from what's audible on this U-Tube, some of Arriva's ticket inspectors must have had some training in public morals and behavior. Even though Malta is still waiting for a law that specifies exactly what should be considered as behavior that offends the public's morals the inspector in case decided to act as the Judge and jury. The role of a bus ticket inspector should be just exactly that, as I trust most of them do not qualified to do any other duties.
Arriva and Transport Malta are responsible that none of their employees violently confront, and worse still aggravate their clients. The general public and particularly the women involved in this incident are owed a sincere apology and a guarantee that their employees will not in future play judge and jury. Indeed if any one feels that he/she has witnessed any misappropriate behavior in a public place, one should inform the police.
Whatever happened to the proffesional public transport service we were promised just a few short months ago?

- Mon 06-Feb-2012, 16:44As a regular commuter Arriva should take action in courts against the ex-Arriva employee. Even the police should take action against this employee. Besides Arriva should see that its employees are of good conduct and behalf themselves. It should take care about who employ.
